Matrix Metalloproteinase Therapy Enhances Posttraumatic Skeletal Muscleregeneration

چکیده

Muscle injuries are the most common musculoskeletal injuries encountered by physicians. Muscle undergoes time-dependent phases of healing, which ultimately result in residual fibrosis in the injured area. Fibrous tissue impedes the muscle healing process by forming a physical barrier that limits myoblast migration and fusion, which in turn creates an unsuitable environment for regenerating myofibers (1). This process predisposes the muscle not only to diminished function, but also to reinjury. Although researchers have investigated the prevention of fibrosis through the prophylactic use of anti-fibrosis agents (e.g., decorin and suramin), clinical scenarios likely would require the treatment of fibrous tissue after its development (2,3). The therapeutic use of exogenous matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), a family of naturally occurring proteases involved in cell migration and extracellular matrix maintenance (4,5), may improve recovery after muscle injuries by promoting the digestion of existing fibrous tissue and releasing local growth factors, thereby enhancing the growth of regenerating myofibers and their migration into the area of injury.

Arachidonic Acid Enhances Turnover of the Dermal Skeleton: Studies on Zebrafish Scales

In fish nutrition, the ratio between omega-3 and omega-6 poly-unsaturated fatty acids influences skeletal development. Supplementation of fish oils with vegetable oils increases the content of omega-6 fatty acids, such as arachidonic acid in the diet. Arachidonic acid is metabolized by cyclooxygenases to prostaglandin E2, an eicosanoid with effects on bone formation and remodeling. To elucidate...

Effects of increased matrix metalloproteinase-9 expression on skeletal muscle fibrosis in prolonged alcoholic myopathies of rats.

This study evaluated the effects of matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) on injured gastrocnemius, soleus and plantaris muscles, induced by alcohol in rats. A total of 60 male Sprague-Dawley rats (2.5 months old, 200 ± 20 g) were divided into 6 groups: i) untreated skeletal muscle and analyzed 2 weeks later (A1 group, 5 rats); ii) untreated skeletal muscle a...

The effect of interval training and consumption of Urtica dioica hydroalcoholic extract on Heat shock protein 70 and Extracellular matrix metalloproteinase inducer in C57 rats with melanoma cancer

Introduction: It has been suggested that targeted therapy of growth and immune factors may lead to more effective inhibition of tumor proliferation and recurrence in melanoma cancer. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of interval training and consumption of Urtica dioica hydroalcoholic extract on Heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) and Extracellular matrix metalloproteinase inducer (...

Influence of therapeutic hypothermia on matrix metalloproteinase activity after traumatic brain injury in rats.

Recent evidence suggests that matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) contribute to acute edema and lesion formation following ischemic and traumatic brain injuries (TBI). Experimental and clinical studies have also reported the beneficial effects of posttraumatic hypothermia on histopathological and behavioral outcome. The purpose of this study was to determine whether therapeutic hypothermia would a...
